The award recognizes athletic excellence, as well as academic achievement and exemplary character. Stegmann is now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Girls Cross Country Runner of the Year award, which will be announced in February.
Stegmann won the UIL 5A Cross Country title in November after also winning the District 9-5A and Region 2 championships.
“I’m just so thankful to be here,” Stegmann said after her 5A state title. It’s a little surreal. It’s been a long journey.”
Stegmann took second at the Nike Cross Nationals South Regional championships and was 37th nationally at the Nike Cross National Finals.
